I will skip all the specs and basic stuff which you can look up on the manual, and get straight into the user experience side of things. If you decide to get it, here is my tutorial on how to set it up for the first time :.
The Air Unit consists of a camera and a video transmitter. The entire casing of the Air Unit is made of aluminium, which doubles as protection, and a heatsink for cooling.
The Air Unit including camera and antennas weighs around 53g. The VTX is considerably bulkier than its analogue counterpart, making it a challenge to find a racing drone frame with enough space. A nice touch are the cable grommets offering stress relief to the connection between the camera and air unit.
If you power it with a 4S LiPo Here are flight controllers designed specifically for the DJI Air Unitmaking it a solder-free, plug and play combo. These can be removed for transportation, as well as replaced and upgraded. From my understanding, the top two antennas are responsible for transmitting and receiving signals. Unlike an analogue FPV system, the DJI goggles have a transmitter inside which means that they can be damaged if they are powered on, without the antennas attached.
The goggles are powered by an external battery via a cable which has an XT60 connector, so you can power it with a 2S LiPo battery like a Fatshark. The ample weight is distributed effectively by the well designed strap, while face-plate foam of the highest quality ensures a comfortable fit. Faceplate foam has better quality than any FPV goggles I have tested.
The field of view FOV is larger than most slimline goggles, but racers often prefer a smaller FOV to allow for tighter focus on the course. DJI have addressed this in a novel way, providing the ability to zoom in on the image, but the OSD info will remain at the corners of the screen.
A 2S mah only lasts for about an hour. The Radio might not look like anything popular on the FPV market, but the ergonomics are actually pretty good. The gimbals are on par with the Hall sensor gimbals from Frsky, if not better. There are four auxiliary switches toggles for activating different modes in Betaflight and other features. You can also conveniently enable DVR recording on the radio controller without needing to reach the buttons on your goggles.

I too was disappointed that the goggles didn't play the live audio from the air unit while I fly. I think that could be really nice given the digital nature of the system. I will continue to pester DJI to add this feature every chance I get.
The only time there is audio coming from that headphone jack is if you record on the air unit, take the sd card out and place it in the goggles, and then play back that recording. Got it - thanks for confirming - that's really bad news, I had absolutely assumed since there was the headphone jack then there would be a live audio available.
I've long considered live audio a fundamental feature for flying FPV and without it the level of immersion is way less. It not being there seems a huge oversight on DJIs side - Hints that they don't fully understand their whole target audience. Lets hope this get implemented, and soon!
I was about to drop some coin on the system for myself, as I'm building a Tower Hobbies Sport GP which I plan on rigging for FPV and I want to be able to hear my engine through the FPV system so I can identify engine problems before they cause a crash That and enjoy the hearty thrum of the engine.

All of these flight controllers have built-in voltage regulator that provides stable power to the DJI Air Unit, making it truly plug and play. The flight controller is a single sided PCB components are built on only one side of the board. This means less separation is required on the bottom, and so you can mount the ESC closer to the FC and make a super low stack.
Between the two stacks we looked at, there is no clear winner. The best FC stack depends on your application and preference. And the Infinity 4in1 ESC is also stronger and has a lot more capacitors. Most analog transmissions provide a latency between ms. The DJI HDL FPV Transmission technology utilizes a two-way communication system to stabilize signal connections, granting pilots more flexibility while flying through challenging areas.Ty Poland. The main difference between these two systems is the breakup you get when you start getting a bad signal. If you are familiar with flying FPV drones, you know that there can be a lot of interference depending on your location and the materials you are flying around. With static and cutout on the analog system, it may get hard to see, but your image is never delayed much. On the digital system, however, the breakup is much different.
You can expect to see pixelation on the DJI FPV system, mainly on the outside edges and while that is happening, there may also be a delay in video transmission. This makes it harder to react in real-time if you are stuck in a tight situation or flying fast. I will say that the digital system is a lot easier to set up and typically gets a stronger and clearer image than an analog system, but at the same time, for the FPV market, those milliseconds count.
What is the DJI Digital FPV System?
On certain flights with the DJI system, it would go from 21ms to around ms at times, and that can start to affect the way you control the quad because of that slight delay. This mainly happened when I hit interference or flew farther away, but it is something to be conscious of before just thinking digital FPV is the holy grail right now. The DJI air unit and camera weigh about 90 grams while a typical setup could weigh less if need be.
There are no options to just have the camera and VTX because the receiver is also built into the air unit. My favorite part about this is how many fewer wires there are and how clean it can look when you build. This camera can shoot a max output of p at 60fps. For some FPV pilots, this quality may be good enough to replace your GoPro or action cam so you have a little less weight to fly.
For cinematic pilots and people looking for quality, I would not recommend this as a primary option; it is not the best for color grading, stabilization, or quality in general. However, if you need to use it or want a backup, it is a great option.
Compared to previous DJI controllers, this one has a very similar feel to my Inspire 2 controller. Compared to other FPV controllers, it is a bit of an adjustment and probably does have some good room for improvement as far as overall design and feel goes.
The switches seem to be positioned oddly, and the knobs are a bit short. It would also be nice to see some sort of screen to adjust settings in the controller and link to other quads with digital units. The only plus sides would be having options to record and adjust settings directly with the dials on the controller but this is something FPV Pilots typically use Betaflight for. The best part about the controller is the range it will give you compared to other controllers out there.
The controller also has some pretty good battery life and can be recharged via USB-C.
